BeetBox

The BeetBox

Our radishing, urban vegetable farm grows out of the greenbelt in Nepean and serves West Ottawa.
This worker’s co-operative not only provides consistently fresh and high-quality organic produce, it fosters a growing community of lovers of good food. We believe that strong communities are grown from healthy soils and that eaters deserve the right to know how their food is grown.

That’s why our urban farm offers several ways to reconnect with healthy food. We have a Farm Store, a CSA, a CSA trial membership called the Sampler Box, as well as a Community Farm program where participants grow their own veggies. We also welcome volunteers, we host summer events and concerts and we have a plant sale for home-gardeners in May!

Our farm is YOUR farm. Join our mailing list to find out what fun farm activity is coming up next!

Barkley’s Apple Orchard

Barkley’s Apple Orchard

Bill, Delia, Solomon, Liam and Denzil Barkley

“This farm is a responsibility,” says Bill. His family represents the seventh generation of Barkleys on the 70-acre spread. Bill previously spent ten years as an Agriculture Specialist with CUSO in Africa and several more as an Organic Inspector in Canada. Any fruit crop surplus is preserved and converted to cider, vinegar, jam, pies and a recently added delicacy, frozen strawberry coulis. A dozen bee hives on the property serve as apple tree pollinators and produce delicious Honey.

While Bill is not certain that his sons will continue the Barkley family’s farming tradition, his own commitment to sustaining the local farm economy provides powerful inspiration.

Acorn Creek Garden Farm

Acorn Creek Garden Farm

Andy & Cindy Terauds

Cindy Terauds began growing vegetables for sale at the age of six and has never looked back! She met Andy while both were studying agriculture at McGill University’s Macdonald College and together they determined that horticulture was going be their career. Since 1978 they have been operating Acorn Creek Garden Farm on 100 acres in Carp, fulfilling their dream, “growing and selling premium quality produce,” using sustainable agricultural practices.

The fruits and vegetables at Acorn Creek are personally hand picked “at their peak” or visitors may pick their own. At their farm market the Terauds also sell a unique array of ‘Naturally Cindy’s’ gourmet preserves prepared on site from Acorn Creek produce.
“We grow flavour,” is definitely the mantra at Acorn Creek.

A wide variety of locally adapted bedding plants, tasty herbs and delectable melons are grown regularly alongside experimental varieties that the Terauds hope to successfully adapt to our northern growing conditions. Buzzz Honey Products

Buzzz Honey Products

Jill Davies

Buzzz Honey Products began with two hives at Chesterfield Farm, with sisters Jill and Kathleen Davies, producing honey and beeswax. The bees are kept according to organic practices and forage in clean unspoiled gardens, fields and forests, bringing in a wide variety of pollens and nectars from many different flower varieties, not the least of which is Calendula, or English Marigold (not actually marigold, but aster family). Locally produced organic oils, plus our homegrown input of honey, beeswax and calendula infused oil and tea, result in a skin care line that is “food for your skin”: cleansing and nourishment for naturally radiant skin, without petroleum distillates or synthetic preservatives.
