Érablière J.B. Caron

Érablière J.B. Caron

Mylène Caron & Frédéric Tremblay Carle

The family sugar shack was founded in 1936 by one of the pillars of our family, Jean-Baptiste Caron and his wife Fidélia Ladouceur. J.B. Caron are obviously the initials of Jean-Baptiste, but it was only after the 3rd generation that the name of the business was changed to L’Érablière J.B. Caron in memory of its founder.
In 1950, Gérald Caron, son of Jean-Baptiste and Fidélia, and his wife Mercedes Carpentier took over the sugar shack until 1985.

In 1990, the couple’s 4 sons took over, devoting themselves to maple syrup production. In 1999, Paul Caron and his wife Monique Arsenault became the owners and made major investments, including building a reception hall to serve traditional sugar shack meals and host events of all kinds for the rest of the year.

Now in her 4th generation as a maple syrup producer and with nearly 18,000 taps, Mylène Caron, daughter of Paul and Monique, and her husband Frédéric Tremblay Carle are taking over the reins of Érablière J.B. Caron.
What unites them all is a love of nature and, above all, of the pleasures of the maple tree, which are synonymous with good food.
The Érablière J.B. Caron has been handed down from generation to generation to carry on the maple traditions.

Upper Canada Creamery

Upper Canada Creamery

We process our own milk to produce top quality dairy products. Fresh from our farm to your fridge.

Since 1981, we have slowly increased our land base to 400 acres, milking 50 mixed breed cows on a 90–96% grass-fed diet, based on the time of year.

It has taken a lot of hard work, time and dedication to grow our business, but with vision, passion & support networks in place, we have made our dream a reality and continue to develop a plan for product line growth and integrating our local community into our lifestyle. As a result of our determination, we have been recognized for our hard work and innovation by receiving the Regional Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence (2016) and being 1 of 4 finalists for the Ontario Outstanding Young Farmer Program (2017).

Temple’s Sugar Bush

Temple’s Sugar Bush

Our sugar bush covers 70 acres and contains approximately 5,000 taps. The property was clear-cut for firewood in the 1940s. The regeneration which followed would have included a variety of species such as ash, elm, basswood, hickory, birch, butternut, cherry and, of course, maple. Fortunately, the McEwen family and in particular Bob McEwen decided to develop this mixed bush into a working sugar bush. Through the 1960s and 70’s the bush became a demonstration wood lot, with the assistance of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, to show the value of proper sugar bush management and thinning techniques.

Take a walk on our Sugar Bush Trail and enjoy the pleasures of walking through a young forest and learn something of the plants and animals that have become part of it.

Nanabush Food Forests

Nanabush Food Forests

Shelley Lambert

We have established organic food forests within the City of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada with emphasis on permanent, restorative agriculture. By design, gardening in these forests builds soil structure, uses less water and yields a dramatic amount of highly nutritious food per square meter.

We encourage others to join in the movement to convert small fringe spaces to food production zones. We hope people who are interested in creating their own food forests to come visit our demonstration food forest at the Just Food farm within the City of Ottawa during our scheduled tours and workshops.

Glengarry Maple

Glengarry Maple

Shirley Fulton-Deugo and Scott Deugo

Glengarry Maple is a family owned maple farm that takes pride in offering small batch, single forest maple syrup. Our forest, situated in Eastern Ontario, has fairly rocky but fertile soil. Much like a vineyard, a maple forest relies greatly on terroir, as well as the varietal of maple, to develop a maple syrup that is full-bodied and rich in flavor. Our mission is to produce high-quality maple syrup, while managing the bush in a responsible and sustainable way. Subsequently keeping this beautiful hardwood forest for future generations to use conscientiously and for those that call it home.

Firefly Meadows Farm

Firefly Meadows Farm

Michele and Gregg Parsons

We own a small, diversified farm situated between Eganville and Killaloe. The farm encompasses pastures, hayfields, a small market garden, wetlands and mixed species forest. Our livestock includes laying hens for farm-gate sales of eggs, organic meat birds for our own use, grass-fed, pastured Katahdin sheep for mild, lean, delicious meat, and a team of Belgian horses to help around the farm, especially in the winter. We enjoy showing visitors around the farm and discussing our farm practices.

Our farm kitchen is designed for the production of many loaves of sourdough bread, dozens of Scottish shortbread, chocolate brownies and lemon squares, among many offerings of baked goods. This is where we also create small batches of wild apple cider vinegar, garlic products, granola, and wildflower cordial.

Wood is sustainably harvested from our land and hand carved by Gregg to become functional, one of a kind, beautiful kitchen utensils such as spoons of all sizes, spatulas, and scoops.
