Jabulani Vineyard and Winery

Jabulani Vineyard and Winery

Jabulani is a Zulu word meaning happiness or rejoice and so this is the place of happiness. It was what Tom said he was feeling as we walked the property before buying it in 2006. When we bought it, it was just a fallow field – nothing on it – but we fell in love with it all the same. Tom had been making wine since he was a teenager back in Africa and we knew we would always be making wine, just never dreamed it would be from our own grapes! Tom has used methods that he learned while visiting the wine regions of the Cape Province of South Africa near to where his grandfather lived. This seems to have given our wines a unique flavour that is favoured by our customers and wine judges alike. To date we have fifteen international awards and five Canadian championship awards, including a Double Gold for our Marquette Chete 2015, and intend on continuing to enter competitions to prove that Canadians can make world class wines.

We started planting vines in the spring of 2007 and our first harvest was in 2010. Jabulani opened its doors in 2011. It was a small venue at that time – a tasting patio with five barrels as tables and the store was run out of the bottom portion of our home.

Today we have eight different varieties of cold climate vines numbering just over 11,000 on 11 acres of the farm. We have expanded the winery to include a separate building from our home and it is there that we not only make our award winning wines but where we also host events such as weddings. There are three favourite locations on our farm where couples have chosen to have their ceremonies; by the pond behind our home, within the old orchard and the most popular has been in our crush pad. The winery can accommodate events of up to 120 people indoors as well as outside at our tasting patio.

KIN Vineyards

KIN Vineyards

Great wine truly is made in the vineyard and it is an adherence to this philosophy that informs our choice to farm sustainably, including both organic and biodynamic approaches whenever possible.

Healthy soils, a biodiversity of flora and fauna creates a vineyard of balance and synergy … and ultimately, wines of substance, integrity, uniqueness of place and longevity. Our winemaking is focused on using experience and skill to achieve balance in the wines rather than to achieve a preconceived ideal.

As stewards of 47 acres of land (10 under vine), and as practitioners of truly sustainable viticulture, our pursuit of winemaking perfection begins with the soil.

KIN Vineyards tends to a vineyard nestled along the Carp Ridge, adjoined by the Carp River, and resting upon the grey limestone of the Ottawa Formation. The vineyard supports a distinct terroir, a unique personality, and a tremendous potential for remarkable wine.

Érablière J.B. Caron

Érablière J.B. Caron

Mylène Caron & Frédéric Tremblay Carle

The family sugar shack was founded in 1936 by one of the pillars of our family, Jean-Baptiste Caron and his wife Fidélia Ladouceur. J.B. Caron are obviously the initials of Jean-Baptiste, but it was only after the 3rd generation that the name of the business was changed to L’Érablière J.B. Caron in memory of its founder.
In 1950, Gérald Caron, son of Jean-Baptiste and Fidélia, and his wife Mercedes Carpentier took over the sugar shack until 1985.

In 1990, the couple’s 4 sons took over, devoting themselves to maple syrup production. In 1999, Paul Caron and his wife Monique Arsenault became the owners and made major investments, including building a reception hall to serve traditional sugar shack meals and host events of all kinds for the rest of the year.

Now in her 4th generation as a maple syrup producer and with nearly 18,000 taps, Mylène Caron, daughter of Paul and Monique, and her husband Frédéric Tremblay Carle are taking over the reins of Érablière J.B. Caron.
What unites them all is a love of nature and, above all, of the pleasures of the maple tree, which are synonymous with good food.
The Érablière J.B. Caron has been handed down from generation to generation to carry on the maple traditions.

Upper Canada Creamery

Upper Canada Creamery

We process our own milk to produce top quality dairy products. Fresh from our farm to your fridge.

Since 1981, we have slowly increased our land base to 400 acres, milking 50 mixed breed cows on a 90–96% grass-fed diet, based on the time of year.

It has taken a lot of hard work, time and dedication to grow our business, but with vision, passion & support networks in place, we have made our dream a reality and continue to develop a plan for product line growth and integrating our local community into our lifestyle. As a result of our determination, we have been recognized for our hard work and innovation by receiving the Regional Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence (2016) and being 1 of 4 finalists for the Ontario Outstanding Young Farmer Program (2017).
